If You Want the Simplest Long Trip: The Escalade Family

The Escalade is body-on-frame, V8-powered, and built around space. It seats up to seven (eight with the available bench), which gives a bigger group room to spread out on a multi-day trip. Fuel economy is the trade-off at 17 mpg combined, so expect to stop for fuel more often than you would in a smaller SUV.

Two honest caveats. Cargo space behind the third row is 15.2 cubic feet, so you'll want to fold a seat if the whole family is coming with luggage. The 2026 XT5 is a five-seat, two-row luxury SUV. It's an excellent road-trip vehicle for a couple or a small family, and it's easier to park and maneuver than the full-size options. If you regularly need seven seats, though, the Escalade or Vistiq is the better fit.
